How to cancel a subscription on Google Play
A subscription you pay for through Google Play is canceled in Google Play, and deleting the app does not do it. These are Google's own steps, from its help pages.
Cancel on your Android phone
- Open your subscriptions in Google Play, at play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions.
- Tap the subscription you want to cancel.
- Tap Cancel subscription.
- Follow the instructions to the end.
Google is clear that uninstalling the app does not cancel its subscription.
Cancel on a computer
- Go to play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions and sign in.
- Next to the subscription, click Manage.
- Click Cancel subscription, pick a reason, then click Continue.
What happens after you cancel
You keep the subscription for the time you have already paid for, and it is not charged again. In Google's own example, a yearly plan bought on January 1 and canceled on July 1 runs until December 31.
Some apps let you pause instead, for a week up to three months: choose Manage, then Pause payments.
If it is not there
- Another Google accountGoogle says a subscription you cannot find may be on a different account. Switch accounts in Google Play and look again.
- Bought somewhere elseA subscription started on the service's own website, or through Apple, is not billed by Google Play, and is canceled where it was started.
Asking for a refund
Google says it does not refund most Google Play purchases, with exceptions: within 48 hours you may be able to request one, and after that the app's developer decides.
Keep track of what you pay for
Tendd keeps every subscription in one calm list, with the monthly total and when each charge is next. You can add them yourself without linking a bank.
