How to cancel a subscription on PayPal
PayPal can stop paying a business, but that does not always end the subscription. This guide does both, from PayPal's own pages.
Stop the payments on paypal.com
- Sign in at paypal.com and go to Settings.
- Click Payments.
- Choose Subscriptions and saved businesses, or Automatic payments, whichever your account shows.
- Select the business, and cancel the automatic payment there.
In the PayPal app
- Tap Menu, then Subscriptions or Linked Businesses.
- Tap the business, then Account.
- Tap Unlink, then Unlink again to confirm.
Then cancel with the business too
PayPal says that stopping payments there typically does not cancel the subscription itself, and suggests contacting the business directly so nothing is left owing.
The automatic payment in PayPal shows the business's contact details. Most subscriptions also cancel from the account page on the service's own website.
When it takes effect
PayPal says most cancellations take effect at once, and some services stop at the end of the billing period. The service's own policy says which.
If a charge still comes
Contact the business first. If that does not work, PayPal notes that your bank or card issuer can let you dispute the charge or stop future payments, and most will ask you to show you tried the business first.
Keep track of what you pay for
Tendd keeps every subscription in one calm list, with the monthly total and when each charge is next. You can add them yourself without linking a bank.
